The Cane Way

WMS student recognition
The future is looking bright for this group of WMS students!  On Friday, October 27, 2017 the Middle School held a surprise award ceremony, complete with parents, to recognize WMS students who exemplified The Cane Way!

Each of the students were nominated by a WMS staff member and had no idea about the ceremony until they were called to the Auditeria. We were able to recognize this exemplary group of students in front of their parents and highlight their extraordinary daily contributions to the Middle School - The Cane Way!

The Cane Way is about more than grades, it's about how students interact with their peers and teachers, their positive attitude, kindness, compassion, work ethic, willingness to help others, desire for learning, and the ability to meet challenges head on.

We hope you'll take a few minutes and read what the WMS staff members had to say about each student recognized in the combined program linked below. With student's like these, the future looks bright indeed.

WMS welcome banner

- Wilmington Middle Schools kicks off the school year with the Sandy Hook Promise Start With Hello.

WMS students were greeted by staff members with a warm HELLO as they walked under a Welcome banner to enter the building. The Start With Hello program teaches students the skills they need to reach out to and include those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation and create a culture of inclusion and connectedness within their school. Students will complete various activities the first week and through the school year that are designed to reduce social isolation within the school and our community.

Hello Wilmington Middle School Families,

My name is Bert Martini and I will be the new principal of Wilmington Middle School. I am excited to be a part of Wilmington City Schools and Wilmington Middle School family. I value and appreciate the trust that you put in our staff to educate your children each day.

Middle School is a critical time in the development of a child and we will work to provide them opportunities that will lead to growth and success in their future as they transition between elementary and high school.

Each day we will strive to create a safe learning environment where the students are challenged to achieve at their highest ability and to have each day be a positive experience for your child. As I begin this new position, I would like to gather your input. The purpose of this survey is to determine your attitudes and perceptions regarding various aspects of Wilmington Middle School. Future goals will be developed from your responses.

Thank you in advance for your time in completing this survey.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns by email at
